AA Coins and NA Keytags: Choosing the Right Recovery Keepsake
AA Coins and NA Keytags: Choosing the Right Recovery Keepsake
Recovery gifts are often grouped together in online shops, but AA and NA are not interchangeable labels. If you are choosing for someone else, their fellowship, preferred language, and milestone matter more than the broad category name. You do not need to guess from the shape of a token.
Start with the fellowship, not the product category
AA stands for Alcoholics Anonymous and NA for Narcotics Anonymous. Ask the person which, if either, they identify with. Someone may attend more than one kind of meeting or prefer a gift without a fellowship symbol. Their answer is more useful than assumptions based on their history.
Use the words they use for the occasion. If they say clean time, you can reflect that language. If they say sober anniversary or recovery milestone, follow their lead. A respectful gift does not require you to decide which label should describe their experience.
Do not treat shape as a reliable identifier
You may encounter coins, medallions, chips, and keytags across recovery gift listings. NA's own Group Booklet mentions keytags, chips, or medallions, and NA World Services sells both medallions and keytags. A round metal object is therefore not enough to identify the fellowship.
Read the lettering and symbol on both sides. Check the product title and description as well as the photos. If a seller uses AA and NA together in a broad search title, that does not establish that the actual artwork suits both. Choose from what is visibly on the item.
After finding the right design, check the selected duration and unit. Colors, sample photos, and numbers can be misleading when you move between product ranges. Confirm whether an option states days, months, years, or an unnumbered message.
For a gift connected to a meeting, ask the organizer how that group marks milestones. NA's Group Booklet describes groups as autonomous, so a practice you saw in one room should not become an instruction for another. A privately bought gift can also remain separate from the group's presentation.
Use a personal medallion for a personal message
An unnumbered artwork can express appreciation without naming a fellowship or a duration. That may be useful when the recipient likes keepsakes but does not want a program-specific gift. Read its full wording and avoid assuming that spiritual imagery will suit everyone.
The unnumbered Deluxe options below are personal gift possibilities, not NA keytags and not official fellowship-issued milestone tokens. If you need a specific NA item, browse the appropriate range and verify the details. If you choose an AA triangle design instead, do so because the recipient has said they want that symbol.
Medallions to consider
These options come from our Elite Medallions and Deluxe Coins collections. Check each listing for current variants, dimensions, availability, and price. Cover photos illustrate a setting; accessories are included only when the listing says so.
